About

I have been a traditional artist since I could hold a crayon, and I am a self taught artist. I have dedicated myself to experimenting and practicing with the paint brush for nearly twenty-five years to shape the art into my own style.  It is noted by taught artist my style is a blend of impressionism, realism and folk in most of my two dimensional artworks. I have been a professional artist (one who sell there artwork for profit/income) since I was eighteen years old.  I have played with almost every artist medium available yet grew found of acrylics and enamels, since to be truthful, I lack the patient for oils to dry.

I have been painting ceramic bisque since I was around twelve years old. My grandparents operated a ceramic shop for nearly thirty years.  I did not become a professional ceramic painter until I was twenty-seven years old and could market finished ceramic figurines via the internet.  I specialized in painting ceramics to be masterpieces – life like in appearance yet doing it in away that my figurines would stand out from others by using various techniques with acrylics paints to achieve my goal.  I can also cased ceramic mold and fire yet it is a dirty job and would rather spend my time paintings so I am supplied by another ceramicist.

I also dabble in the sculpting area from time to time, and one day I hope to provide original sculptures that will be created into reproduction molds.  I desire in creating dog breed figurines of dogs not seen much in the ceramic bisque world.    Along this journey of education of such thing, I found the clays I need to use are sulfur based and in turn I am allergic to sulfur/sulfa.  Yet, I am always determined so for now I practice with polymer clays and watching for new clay that is clean of such allergic agents.

The last thing about me is I also hold an Associates degree in graphic design.  I find myself not the best at this since I prefer an artistic freedom and graphic design has rules, allot of rules.  But I continue to practice, learn, and offer my services since I believe that without putting your self out there you will never grow into something better.

My art name is K. Kay, taken from my real name Kelley Kay Badgerow.  I am currently 41 years old residing with my husband, dogs, horses and cats on a small acreage in the Northwest area of Iowa.
